Arsenal's manager remains confident that his squad can persist in handling with fitness issues after revealing that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The Germany international has been out since August due to knee surgery. Originally slated to be available at the start of this month, Arteta explained the player encountered a problem when advancing his training and failed to reach “to the next level.”

“Our experience helped us build a group that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update leaves a selection headache for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between persisting with Mikel Merino, who got a goal in an unfamiliar forward role on Sunday, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench off the bench. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is an option post-recovery.

Fitness Doubts Linger

Further fitness issues affect defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. Consequently, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to keep their places in central defence for the league leaders.

Arteta believes the substantial investment on new players in the last transfer window has placed the club in a far better place to navigate such unavailability.

When asked if a larger pool of players was helping their title quest, Arteta was emphatic. “Indeed, since the current term has been worse in certain positions, and now the situation with the backline,” he noted.

“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in different positions, and they must be capable to perform various functions if we want to compete at the highest level. And the instance of Mikel Merino.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Havertz

Speaking about the setback highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the subsequent stage and now it appears like we have unlocked that.”

The manager conveyed his personal desire to welcome him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, it’s a player that, personally, I value highly for his contributions to the team, but his mentality, his nature. I see him suffer on the sidelines.”
