Whenever a significant honors show approaches, one notices an outcry to include fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.
My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories actually cover many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.
Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.
- One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
- A different innovative game was excluded in 2019
- Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
- Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
