At its most basic, they turned a figure of love into an icon of animosity who blesses exactly the harshness that he denounced in biblical teachings; this transformation occurred more gradually, across decades instead of months, but it is nonetheless disturbing in the same ways, a bewildering emotional blow for numerous individuals.
A Damaging Christianity Takes Hold
Hence I shall explain the Savior that I grew up with, as conceptually Christ is the focus of any Christian faith, and since the rapidly expanding group of Americans could have minimal awareness about him as they consider themselves atheists or agnostics or religiously unaffiliated. The Savior's reaction to violence is to turn the opposite cheek – not as a demonstration of compliant endurance, but as a means to teach the attacker; his crime policy is that if someone steals your coat you ought to provide the person your additional clothing also.
The obvious and straightforward fact that the Savior in biblical accounts calls for a form of extreme compassion focused on the impoverished is what has always made Christian religion somewhat of a scandalous religion: engaging for the general public, but due to its natural unconventionality requiring to be restrained.
