Thousands Join Pro-Palestinian Rallies as Coordinators Vow to Persist in Activism

A multitude gathered in various Australian cities at pro-Palestine demonstrations, with organisers pledging to keep demonstrating after a ceasefire deal negotiated by the American leader in Gaza seemed to be taking effect.

Sydney March Draws Large Crowd

In Sydney, the Palestine Action Group claimed a crowd of 30,000 had protested from Hyde Park to a nearby green space in the city center after a intended demonstration to the Opera House was restricted by the New South Wales court of appeal recently.

NSW police assessed 8,000 people attended the city demonstration, with a spokesperson reporting there had been "no significant incidents".

Countrywide Protests Remember Occasion

Protests were also conducted in Victoria's capital, Brisbane and Western Australian city on Sunday to commemorate the ongoing situation after militant actions on 7 October 2023 caused significant casualties in the neighboring country.

Political Statements

A different coordinator who made the first proposal to demonstrate at the famous location asserted that the protesters could have safely headed to the iconic waterfront location. The senior police representative had previously stated the court of appeal that the plan had "disaster written all over it".

The activist stated at the event: "On each occasion the authorities try to restrict our protests or legal challenges, it raises public awareness... to the need to mobilise and oppose such actions."
